Camp Aryahorst opening soon

August 3, 2021

Camp Aryahorst To Open Soon   Feeling stressed from the hustle and bustle of city life? Are you having anxieties in life and you need to recharge and commune with nature? Well this is your chance to prepare for that family/barkada road trip or just simply drive out to relax and unwind. Nestled in a promontory which you can see at a distance, a new private modern chalet rises along Route 955 is set to open its doors to the public soon. Located just 500 meters from Doalnara Restoration Society in Sitio Civoleg, Brgy Lunotan, Gingoog City, CAMP ARYAHORST is just situated on top of a hill just beside the highway Meanwhile, Cafe 387, a coffee shop will be opening soon at Camp Aryahorst. This will be a good stopover for coffee break. Interior works are already ongoing. The place is located almost 4,000 feet above sea level, thus having a cooler weather with a majestic view of both Mt. Balatukan and Mt Lumot. Camp Aryahorst is already situated in Mt. Sumagaya. A bit of a side story, when Cebu Pacific Flight 387 crashed, the rescuers main camp is situated in Mt. Sumagaya the site of the current memorial shrine. The airplane crashed in Mt. Lumot. The modern chalet was designed by D.E Architects according to the specification of the owner. The chalet has to be able to connect to the story of the area. Thus the main building of the chalet was designed to look like an airport control tower and its second floor mezzanine recreates an access ramp from the airport to the airplanes door with its all glass construction. Thus Camp Aryahorst is a nod to the Flight 387 memorial shrine. Camp Aryahorst is named after the owner’s pet Shih Tzu dog named “Arya” and “Horst” which is German for “nest”. Accordingly, when the family goes to work, Arya usually gets their used clothes and makes a ‘nest’ out of it and sleeps on it until they arrive home. They added “camp” because they loved camping out. Thus, the modern Chalet is deemed a place to relax and find solace to recharge. Camp Aryahorst is their comfort zone, a place for exclusive friends to wind and dine, away from the sham and drudgery of the world where they can breathe fresh air and enjoy each other’s company in a cool climate. Many travelers including bikers have already dropped by the chalet thinking if it is already open to the public. It is a perfect stopover along Route 955 since it is right at the boundary between Claveria and Gingoog City. The modern Chalet has four rooms, of which three of these rooms can accommodate 4 people each while the one big room is good for 6 people. Perfect for family and barkada overnight stayover. Simply relax and enjoy the cold climate by the cozy fireplace. It has a big lounge in the mezzanine overlooking the road and a great view of the surrounding mountain ranges. A mere walking distance from the chalet are three waterfalls, a cool dip is very inviting to weary travelers just choose one whichever of the waterfalls takes your fancy. Meanwhile, Cafe 387, a coffee shop will be opening soon at Camp Aryahorst. This will be a good stopover for coffee break. Interior works are already ongoing.

Oro Mata: The New Wave of 'World Music' in Cagayan de Oro

April 11, 2021

FUSION OF CULTURAL AND MODERN MUSIC   I have a chance to talk to one of the members of Oro Mata, a very promising band in the city that specializes in 'World Music.' Well, this genre sounds a bit new to many people, especially those who aren't inclined to appreciate different genres, including 'World Music' Although the music seems new in the country, BUT the music that Oro Mata is creating is something that all Filipinos must be proud of. "We've been waiting to share our first single Blanko with all of you. We hope you enjoy this convergence of passion and soul for world music and art, says Oro Mata's Paolo Garrido.  What is World Music? World music is a musical category encompassing many different styles of music from around the world, including traditional music, quasi-traditional music, and music where more than one cultural tradition intermingles. World music's inclusive nature and elasticity as a musical category pose obstacles to a universal definition, but its ethic of interest in the culturally exotic is encapsulated in fRoots magazine's description of the genre as "local music from out there" This other folk music that does not follow "North American or British pop and folk traditions" has been given a catch-all term "world music" by music industries in Europe and North America. The term was popularized in the 1980s as a marketing category for non-Western traditional music. It has grown to include subgenres such as ethnic fusion. Well, I listened to one of their newest music called "Indak" and I was truly amazed, mesmerized, and stunned by the fusion of local and modern music rolled into one. "World music makes us embraced and respect the cultures of other countries," says Paolo Garrido, one of the band's guitarists. Paolo is an OFW (Overseas Filipino Worker) and is due to go back to the ship where he used to work. I invited the group to showcase their talents in one of our teleradyo segments but he says he is living again for good in another country. "Sayang bai. Pero mogawasay nako padulong sa laing nasud! was his answer when I tried to invite the group.   ORO MATA BACKGROUND The concept behind OroMata began a few years back as an informal collaboration among various friends who are interested in world music, art, and social issues. Like its band composition, Oro Mata's style is diverse. By combining global and local influence, different cultures and realities - the band hopes to share their music to inspire people to come together, think about deep-rooted social issues, and hopefully become better citizens of the world.  The band's name is a take on the phrase, Oro Plata Mata - gold, silver, and death. Oro and mata are reminders of life's realities - good and bad, life and death, abundance and lack. Also, separately the band's geographic roots - Cagayan de Oro City. The Oro Mata band is composed of Paolo Garrido, guitar and vocals; Geraldjam Vasallo, vocals; Bam Roa, guitar; Drue Valmores, bass; Mark Treve Gonzaga, percussion; Alexander Manuel Factura, wind instruments, ukelele; Dennis Factura, Percussionist; and Manuel Nulo Bangcong, wind instruments.
