Echoing Women Empowerment by improving their health

March 13, 2019

In celebration of Women’s month this March, we hear a lot of emphasis towards empowering the female population and urge for gender equality. The Philippine Commission for Women (PCW) adopts the theme “Making Change Work for Women” which aims to implement programs and services that address strategic gender needs of women. In our society nowadays, more and more women are engaging in what used to be jobs only meant for men. In some cases, we witness women excelling in the corporate industry more than male. This development brings a positive outlook towards the goal of gender equality.      Aside from these developments, women still hold certain roles in the family, being a mother and a wife has its own necessities and striking a balance between these personas can be very challenging.  In order to do this, Women need additional supplements to stay healthy and be able to prolong their roles that they have to accomplish. It is noted that women needs more calcium intake than men. This is due to the fact that women go through several life stages that increases their calcium needs.      1. Puberty During this stage, women are at the prime of their being active physically. This is also the stage when they start menstruating. It is important to consume the right levels of calcium everyday to prevent the risk of different bone conditions, and try to build up your calcium levels from your younger days.       2. Aldulting In starting an adult life and having a family, Women needs a certain level of estrogen. Estrogen is essential for woman sex hormone. Estrogen also maintains the bone health. Calcium is crucial in maintaining estrogen intact in a woman’s body.      3. Pregnancy During this stage, woman is required to double their calcium intake regularly. This is to supply the calcium needs of the fetus as much as her own. The fetus needs normal levels of calcium to ensure proper heart function and rate as well as proper function of nervous system and muscles. Neglecting the additional calcium intake during your pregnancy will result in utilization of your stored calcium which will be harmful for you in the long term.      4. Menopause Study shows that the bone density declines by 20% after menopause when estrogen level starts to deplete, hence, it is recommended to take sufficient levels of calcium to prevent the problem of bones osteoporosis.      Osteoporosis, is a condition where bones become too porous and loose its density. As bones become more porous and fragile, the risk of fracture is greatly increased. The loss of bone occurs silently and progressively. Often there are no symptoms until the first fracture occurs.      Having stated the importance of calcium in your body, it is important to take calcium supplements to assure you are getting your daily requirement of calcium and as well as other immune boosting supplements. Bewell-C plus Calcium combines the next generation organic calcium with the non-acidic form of vitamin-C and vitamin D3 in order to form a 3 in 1 vitamin supplement that strengthens both the immune system and the bone health of the patient. Sudaria Made The Bravest Decision Of His Life

March 11, 2019

FROM AN AGRICULTURE EXPERT TO A NEWSPAPER GURU BY JOEL CALAMBA ESCOL 3rd of a series * He gambled his 100K monthly earnings to start his own newspaper business After several years of leading the marketing and sales of that company owned by a Chinese-Filipino, the young and energetic entrepreneur has finally decided to start his own newspaper publishing business. Business Week Mindanao, Dante's first weekly newspaper was founded on June 8, 2009 while he was at the peak of his career with Gold Star Daily. At that time he was already earning 100K per month. It was also the time when Ruel Pelone and Nelson Contantino were still with GSD and they were commissioned to establish GSD Cebu City. They would work on Dante's editorial content during Saturdays and Sundays since it was only a weekly paper - and they would send the week's content to the layout artist Felix Santillan for layout and for printing. The said remote operation lasted only for 6 months. Perhaps, the GSD owner saw Dante's weekly paper as a future threat to his daily newspaper. He wanted Dante to decide whether to focus only on his newspaper or it's time to separate ways. Oozing with enthusiasm and determination to succeed on his new endeavor, Sudaria made the wisest and the bravest decision of his life to gamble with this 100K per month earnings and focus all his talents, skills, and experiences to his own newspaper "Business Week Mindanao." He left GSD and put up his own firm. Sudaria was all fired up and bravely put his heart and soul into his newly found company and met clients after clients. It was a final decision to shine even more - now that his ultimate dream of starting his own company was realized. On January 1, 2010, Dante acquired his first printer and continued the Business Week Mindanao operation despite encountering a lot of challenges. Meanwhile, Ruel Pelone and Nelson Constantino also resigned from their GSD Cebu operation as they also found it very hard to operate a newspaper with only two of them. They became jobless then. Later, they have also decided to join Sudaria Publications as full time editors, which at that time was very fresh and just starting to find its place in the industry . After a year's full time operation of Business Week Mindanao, some colleagues and sales agents of GSD also joined Sudaria's company. They were Allan Mediante, Riza Ares, Mike Baños, Felix Santillan, and Gerry Gorit.   Sudaria's love life While Sudaria was also at the peak of his career, he also found great time to follow what his heart desires. And since he would always met GSD's dazzling sales staff, Ms Rose Domingo back then, love grew so easily sometime in 1996 and they became lovers. They kept it a little bit of a secret, so not anyone of the employees would know. Finally, on October 18, 1997, Rose and Dante tied the knot and vowed to love each other in sickness and in health. Their marriage was blessed with four siblings: Dannycarose, Dante JR, Danrosbelt and Danielarose. The birth of a daily paper The young newspaper magnate saw it was ripe to start a daily newspaper to supply for the growing needs of its valued customers and advertisers. Thus, Mindanao Daily came into the picture and Sudaria changed the name of the company into Sudaria Group of Publications. Aside from Mindanao Daily, Cagayan Times was also started to cater to the exclusive coverages on entertainment and lifestyles. Right now Business Week Mindanao was already exclusive to business updates in the entire island of Mindanao, as well as economic growth of the island. The paper no longer cater to police and crime news as it did way back in 1996 and 1997...To be continued.

“He Beat the Dragons in the Newspapering Industry”

March 8, 2019

From an agriculture expert to a newspapering guru 1st part of a series BY JOEL CALAMBA ESCOL MDN Online editor Yes, he was the youngest man in the newspapering history in Southern Philippines who beat all the dragons. I joined the newspapering industry way back in 1991 with my first editor, the ever friendly and approachable Uriel Quilinguing. And this man came in in the same industry sometime in the later part of the 90s. He was then a fresh graduate at a college in Claveria town, the Misamis Oriental State College of Agriculture and Technology (MOSCAT). Later when we were acquainted at the office I had known that he graduated in college with flying colors. In fact, he was a cum laude. Woohh I said to myself, "this man is something to learn to. Basically, those who graduated with that distinctive honor must be brainy. So, it would be very interesting how he would be able to incorporate his huge knowledge in agriculture with the new type of business he was in. I was a desk editor then of that newspaper and I was tasked to receive the very raw and poorly written news reports coming from our local reporters, in which he was part of a bureau in the western side of Misamis Oriental. I noticed that this man is more focused on getting sales and not so much on getting the hard news in his area of coverage. So I just thought that this man was just the same regular guy or bureau chief who simply followed his colleagues in regularly transacting business in their AOR (area of coverage) because they were given big commissions of 50 percent from all the sales they can get. Although, they are required to submit news reports in order to benefit the 50-50 share challenge. And because I just thought of him of being a regular guy or bureau chief, so very often it became a regular scenario that when he was in the office, I'm sure he got sales or adverts, or newspaper edition project just like all the others. Then after completing all his transactions he disappears, and maybe, he goes back to his hometown in Claveria. THEN THIS MAN BECOMES MORE INTERESTING Yeah, he became such to my mind. Do you want to know why? This man requested to be re-assigned in Cagayan de Oro to accept bigger challenges and more responsibilities of not just merely a sales guy but into becoming a Journalist. So from a promdi man (from the province) into becoming a city guy. What? I told myself again. Can he do it here? o cut the story short, one day he stepped in at the office being his first day in his new journey in Cagayan de Oro as a documented and ID-bearing salesman and at the same time a reporter at the main company headquarters in Gusa. I noticed that after he opened the main door of the office and approached our sales staff, this guy was full of sweat and he wiped them out with his handkerchief while already at the front desk sales staff. I don't know if he just walked from Divisoria to our main headquarters in Gusa (haha) because if he rides on a jeepney he would not have that sweat pouring from his innocent-looking face, or he had a sales call in the vicinity before he went to the office to report his sales of the day or his news article to the editorial department. But as soon as he reports to the main office everyday it would always be a scenario that while he steps in, he also wiped off his sweat with his handkerchief. He started to top in sales As his sales increases monthly, I realized that this man was working very hard maybe for his future. Since he was a fresh graduate, he was very optimistic, very energetic and very determined to achieve his goal as soon as possible. - To continued...

“And He Made His Presence Felt Both in Sales and Editorial”

March 8, 2019

From an agriculture expert to a newspapering guru 2nd part of a series BY JOEL CALAMBA ESCOL MDN online editor His presence was felt by his new colleagues right away Working very hard everyday in both sales and editorial, this man easily curved a name not only in the mainstream media community but as well as in government and private sector. He easily made his presence felt and created his own list of contacts that ultimately helped him propel his marketing campaign in Cagayan de Oro and even in Misamis Oriental. The management of the paper also felt him tremendously as he continued to increase sales month after month. But he was not even contented of this growing accolade and commendations until his name was finally called in a fitting ceremony as the number 1 salesman of the company in Cagayan de Oro City...Thus, he has curved his name into the pedestal of success as Mr. Dante Sudaria, the man to beat in sales and marketing. Although his huge background and expertise was more on agriculture but he managed to establish a good plan of actions and gave his 100 percent focus in marketing. The following year, Dante Sudaria bought his own motorcycle to easily reach to his destinations during media launch, press conferences and scheduled sales calls. His new mobility tripled his productivity in a month. Sales agents of the main headquarters like Ric Ociones, Jasper Uy, Ercel Maandig, the late Pol Dael, the late Mario Parba, Ben Balce, Riza Ares, Jun dela Cerna and the late Ed Maliza have also felt the strong presence of Sudaria few months after he was transferred in the city. Challenge accepted One day, the management challenged the sales agents to put up branches in the city to the places they like. Ric Ociones collaborated with other agents and put up their own sales office branch in Divisoria. Riza Ares also went on her own and established a sales office along Pabayo-Tiano Sts. I was also challenged by that said offer so I've decided to stop my editorial duties and put up my own sales office in Ilaya Carmen. Obviously, it wasn't a good decision because after a year I closed shop. Then followed by my other co-sales agents. Until only one was left - and that was the sales office of Mr Sudaria along the national highway in Barangay Lapasan. He succeeded maybe because his Lapasan branch was very strategic, aside from the fact that he installed large tarps to get noticed by advertisers. Well, as I said. He has also built a list of connections from both private and government institutions and he was not only dependent on walk in sales. Sudaria continued to rise against all odds and hitting sales month after month. Time to shine on his own After several years of leading the marketing and sales of that company owned by a Chinese-Filipino, the young and energetic entrepreneur has finally decided to start his own newspaper publishing business. So he left his first company and put up his own firm. He launched his first newspaper "Business Week Mindanao" and the rest was history. Sudaria was all fired up and really put his heart and soul into his newly found company and met clients after clients. It was a final decision to shine even more - now that his ultimate dream of starting his own company was realized...To be continued.
