BUTUAN CITY – The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board in Caraga conducted Productivity lecture 101 to some 120 safety and health advocates from various industries and government agencies at Balanghai Hotel and Convention Center here last April 19-20, 2017.
The activity was hosted by Caraga OSHnet in coordination with the Occupational Safety and Health Center, and the Caraga Regional Office of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
The theme “Sustaining OSH Excellence in Mindanao Through Disaster Preparedness and Risk Reduction” was timely and relevant considering that the February 10, 2017 earthquake in Surigao City that left eight people dead and 202 others injured, was still fresh in the memory of the public. New strategies on occupational safety, health and environment, public safety and employees’ welfare, and emergency management were highlighted and featured during the two-day event.
The summit emphasized that healthy workers and a safe work environment stand for progressive working conditions, higher productivity and workers’ welfare. It requires workers to be equipped with the necessary knowhow and expertise so as to change the way things are done at the workplace. On the other hand, management should be a willing partner to this endeavor. Everyone has a role to play in creating a business environment conducive to more investments and with a higher level of compliance with labor and OSH standards.
