AT the last minute, former Misamis Oriental Vice Gov. Julio Uy decided to take on last term reelectionist Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano after observing that no one else is interested in the position.
“In a democracy, an elected public official needs to have a contender. I present myself as a capable candidate for governor of the province,” Uy said, rallying his National Unity Party with a complete slate yesterday before the provincial Commission on Elections (Comelec) office to counter Emano’s ruling PaDayon Pilipino.
Also yesterday, Vice Gov. Jose Mari Pelaez bolted from PaDayon Pilipino to run as congressman in the first district, rivaling PaDayon Pilipino’s anointed Christian Unabia.
“My decision to join the National Unity Party was a product of a deliberate and conscious reflection motivated only by my sincere desire to serve the Province of Misamis Oriental and our people,” Pelaez said.
During the Comelec filing yesterday, Uy sharply criticized Emano’s flagship health program MisOr Cares, saying beneficiaries could not avail themselves of medical services outside the provincial government-operated hospitals.
Uy also claimed that many constituents from Misamis Oriental who reside as far as in the first district would occasionally troop to his wife Rep. Juliette Uy’s office to ask for medical assistance, which made him conclude that MisOr Cares was a failure.
Rep. Juliette Uy opted to run for her last term in the second district of the province, challenged by former Rep. Jose Benjamin Benaldo who was endorsed by PaDayon Pilipino.
Pelaez’s brother Jeremy, a Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) member, would take on fellow SP member President Elipe (PaDayon Pilipino) for the vice governorship.
It was Elipe’s decision to run for vice governor that made his wife Nadya to decide not to be reelected as Cagayan de Oro City councilor so the family could focus campaigning on one candidate.
The rest of the PaDayon Pilipino slate are the following: reelectionist SP members Wayne Militante, Vicente Pelaez, Fredrick Khu, Virginia Dumadag and former Medina Mayor Ken Uyguanco as first district SP members.
Reelectionist SP members Gerardo Sabal III and Nancy Madjos; former Opol Mayor Dexter Yasay, Tagoloan Councilor Syremae Emano and Pangky Acain as second district SP members.
Staying true to its promise of bringing the services closer to the people, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) has opened its 67th branch in Agusan del Sur recently. “Napakalayong lugar ito kaya nga dapat magkaroon ng isang branch doon para mabigyan ng tulong ang ating mga kababayan...
