CAGAYAN de Oro City - Rotary International president’s representative Muhammad Faiz Kidwai heaped praises on RI District 3870 during the first day of their Discon 2018 yesterday at Limketkai Atrium, this city.
Kidwai congratulated RI District 3870 and its leadership after Governor Rosalinda Deleste announced that the District had surpassed the US$200,000 mark in contributions to the Rotary Foundation.
"Ms. Deleste is perhaps one of the best governors of the Rotary International today. Her achievements speak for themselves," Kidwai remarked before an audience of 600 comprising officers and selected members of the 46 clubs in the district.
Also on hand to witness the three-day event are Rotary Anns and spouses of Rotarians as well as members of the various Rotaract and Interact clubs from five zones of the district.
Deleste's prolific tenure as RI District 3870 governor in RY 2017-2018 came at a time when Marawi City was besieged in a six-month long armed crisis.
Two Rotary clubs in the vicinity - RC Marawi City and RC Metro Lanao - were initially affected but have since bounced back and are now helping in the rehabilitation efforts there.

It is in this resilience as well as the 165 percent increase in TRF district fund contributions the previous year that impressed Kidwai the most.
While weathering through the Marawi crisis, RI District 3870 was also able to charter one club last year, the RC Central Bukidnon.
In terms of performance nationwide, the District is second in per capita annual giving to the Polio Fund.
Deleste likewise reported that 44 out of 46 clubs in RI District 3870 are already qualified for presidential citation.
The holding of the 34th DisCon this year is largely successful through the efforts of RC Kalayaan headed by past assistant governor Gigi Go, the convention chair.
The 34th DisCon continues today with the keynote speech of former Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
