CAGAYAN DE ORO (MDN digital, May 30) – Police authorities based at the Laguindingan International Airport has intercepted Wednesday three bags full of Zimbabwean dollars.
According to the report of Police Colonel Raniel Valones, chief, aviation security, the baggages were suspicious when it passed the airport's x-ray machine so that they have decided to open it and they were surprised to see the currencies in Zimbabwe inside the three bags.
The police official said based on air waybill of the three baggages that there were only waste materials but when opened the owner has tried to ship these bags of money from another country.
After the aviation's inventory, it was found out that the 5,997 pieces of 100 trillion Zimbabwean dollars ammounted to more or less P124,000 in Philippine currency, police authorities revealed.
Valones said their office has contacted the owner of the baggaes and they were told he is coming to their office to bring their proper documents on said baggages of Zimbabwean dollars.
The owner claimed they have bought the said currency at P450,000 in Pagadian City and they are scheduled to bring them to Manila for still unknown reasons.
The aviation authorities are still investigating whether the currencies or bank notes are genuine or fake, as they might be used in illegal undertakings victimizing unsuspicious individuals.
