Traditional gong melodies performed by the Mayato Kulintang Ensemble filled the Ramihan Gym of Brgy. Datu Abdul and greeted the participants of the Panabo’s 2nd Eid’l Adha City-Wide Kanduri last August 25.
Kanduri is a traditional gathering of the city’s Muslim communities in celebration of Eid’l Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) or any religious or cultural event.
According to Islamic scriptures, Eid’l Adha is a celebration honoring the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son (Ishmael) as an act of obedience to Allah’s command. Buts before Ibrahim could sacrifice his son, Allah provided a lamb to sacrifice instead. This is also a commemoration of both the father and son for their example of obedience and submission to the divine will.
The event was celebrated through Qur’an reading and lecture on Eid’l Adha (Muhadhaarah) by religious leaders. Also featured were delicacies, products, attires and presentations from the city’s four major Muslim tribes - Kagan, Maranao, Maguindanao and Tausug.
Acting Regional Director Norhaida Lumaan of National Commission of Muslim Filipino XI (NCMF) in her message, admired the unity and faith of the participating Muslim communities resulting to the realization of the 2nd year city celebration with the support of the Local Government Unit (LGU). Further, Dir. Lumaan envisioned that more Muslim communities will join the Kanduri for the coming years.
This festivity is supported by the LGU-Panabo thru the Office of the City Mayor James Gamao, Office of the City Muslim Affairs, and Office of the City IPMR Datu Ariel Macla.
Enjoining the celebration were city officials - Vice Mayor Janrey Gavina, Councilors Gregorio Dujali III, Flopone Royle Catalan, Emmanuel Pamisaran, Wahid Ranain, and Dizon Namuag; together with the heads and employees of various LGU departments.
