CAGAYAN de Oro City–Second Councilor Girlet Luansing is the new acting City Mayor of Ozamiz City pending the resolution of the case filed against Vice Mayor Nova Princess Parojinog for alleged possession of illegal drugs and illegal possession of firearms.
Vice Mayor Parojinog was arrested during the simultaneous raid of the Parojinog houses early dawn Sunday of the combined police team of the provincial police office, the Ozamiz City Police, and the provincial Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) where Mayor Reynaldo “Aldong” Parojinog and 14 others were killed in an alleged shootout with the raiding team.
One of the subject of the search warrants was incumbent first City Councilor Ricardo “ Ardot ” Parojinog who was not around when the law enforces raided his house in Bagacay, a village about 10 kilometers from Ozamiz City.
City Councilor Ardot Parojinog would have been the acting City Mayor, but since he remains at large, the second City Councilor to garner the highest votes in the 2016 local elections Girlet Luansing now acts as the acting City Mayor.
The third City Councilor Michael Tagal would now serve as the acting City Vice Mayor and would preside during the regular session of the City Councilor every Monday.
Section 44 on permanent vacancies in the offices of the governor, vice governor, mayor and vice mayor, of the Commissions on Elections (Comelec) “if a permanent vacancy occurs in the office of mayor or vice mayor, the highest-ranking member of Sanggunian member or the second highest ranking Sanggunian member shall become the Mayor or Vice Mayor.”
In case of the vacancy in the Sanggunian Panglunsod (City Council), the President, through the Executive Secretary, would make the appointment of the vacated seats in the City Council of highly urbanized cities and independent component cities, the Comelec said.
