CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY - The Philippine National Police (PNP) regional office based here arrested 544 persons all over Northern Mindanao last month.
In a report released yesterday, PNP regional spokesperson Senior Supt. Lemuel Gonda said that 291 of those apprehended had warrants issued by the court, 238 were for illegal gambling and 148 were for possession of illegal substance, specifically shabu.
Gonda said Bukidnon topped the highest number of arrests at 129 followed by Misamis Oriental at 121 and the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO) at 97.
Camiguin remains to be the most peaceful locality in Region 10 with only 16 arrests made last month. The May arrests in that province consisted of nine facing assorted criminal cases, five for illegal gambling and only one for illegal drugs.
Gonda further reported that there were 40 unregistered firearms in the region that were seized by the police in May.
Thirteen of these were found in Lanao del Norte, nine in Bukidnon, eight in Misamis Oriental, five in Misamis Occidental, three in Iligan City and two in Cagayan de Oro City. There was no unregistered firearm recovered in Camiguin during the period.
