MARAMAG, Bukidnon, March 18 — Nomcaarrdwill hold its first Fiesta (Farmers and Industry Encounter through Science & Technology Agenda) to showcase “Kawayan (bamboo)” and “Kanding (goat)” on 21-22 March 2018 at Central Mindanao University Convention Center, Maramag town, Bukidnon.
With bamboos and goats as the centerpiece, Nomcaarrd (Northern Mindanao Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development) Fiesta celebration includes technology sharing on Bamboo production; Establishment of a village-level bamboo nursery; Mitigating soil erosion through bamboo plantation; and Prospects of engineered bamboo.
Sharing of technologies on goat production and smallholder goat-raising are also in the row.
Additional expertise-sharing on mushroom and Adlay production, disease-free potato seeds production, and the emerging ‘Organic farming’ will also be showcased.
Using several types of technical knowledge, this event aims to attract farmers, investors, manufacturers, processors, researchers, extension workers, students, as well as local government units, to gather and experience the benefits of research and development (R&D).
Nomcaarrd Director Maria Estela B. Detalla said Fiesta is a celebration of the convergence of technology generators, technology adopters, and potential investors.
Dubbed as “Kawayan ug Kanding Fiesta sa Nomcaarrd (Bamboo and Goat Festival in Nomcaarrd,” event organizers will also initiate approaches on Technology Matching, Technology to People, Farmers’ Forum, and Business Coaching.
Technology Matching is a venue where available technologies will be matched with the information and technology needs of the participants; while Technology to People is the viewers’ chance to roam around the Fiesta booths, talk with experts, and examine various R&D products of Nomcaarrd.
Farmers’ Forum is an opportunity for participants to interact with technology speakers and negotiate, discuss, consult or seek advice and recommendations on issues relevant to Fiesta’s purpose.
Likewise, Business Coaching gives participants the right time to seek experts’ assistance as Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) specialists will tackle issues on business opportunities that are influential in products enhancement and improvement of market strategies.
Sharing of success stories and distribution of information, education, and communication (IEC) materials will also roll throughout the event.
Highlights of the occasion include quiz bowl; competition on photography, essay writing, cooking; and identification of forage & pasture.
Fiesta is a strategy to push the commercialization of regional Science and Technology (S&T)-based products to its target users and markets.
