CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – A man was shot and killed by a lone police officer after he shot it out last Monday evening in barangay Puntod here.
According to Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) spokesperson Chief Insp. Mardy Hortillosa II, the dead suspect was identified as Eric Dadang, a resident of barangay Lapasan.
Quoting a blotter from Cocpo Station 5, Hortillosa said that around 5:50 Monday evening, PO3 Argie Yecyec was initially responding to a harassment incident in Tulay Semento, St. John, Puntod allegedly perpetrated by the suspect.
Residents in the area led by a certain Irish Taculod complained to Yecyec, who is living nearby but assigned at Cocpo Station 3, that the suspect was allegedly poking a .38 caliber revolver indiscriminately at the wake of her father.
Upon arrival, Yecyec immediately confronted the suspect who allegedly fired his gun at the direction of the responding police officer, prompting Yecyec to fire back.
The suspect sustained 11 gunshot wounds – six in the back, three in the front of his body, one in the face and one in the nape. He died upon arrival at the hospital. Yecyec was not hit.
Hortillosa said the incident is now under investigation by the police’s Internal Affairs Service (IAS). In the meantime, Yecyec continues reporting for duty at Cocpo Station 3.
