HUNDREDS of poor residents were served free lugaw during the launch of the Libreng Kusina sa Mindanao, a mobile Duterte-Pimentel Kitchen free feeding program last February 25 in barangay Macabalan in Cagayan de Oro City.
The event which will be held regularly on a periodic basis is organized by supporters of President Duterte and Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III in cooperation with local leaders of PDP-Laban.
Teresa Pimentel, convenor of the event, said the feeding program launch was the Mindanaoans’ version to celebrate the anniversary of the 1986 People Power that led to the downfall of the martial law regime.
Ms. Pimentel pointed out that it was in Mindanao where the seeds of the protest movement against the then President Ferdinand Marcos took roots when then Mayor Aquilino Pimentel Jr., the senator’s father, openly criticized him.
Because of his open defiance on Marcos, the elder Pimentel was imprisoned several times on trumped-up charges, becoming one of the steadfast leaders of the opposition against martial rule.
Meanwhile, PDP-Laban city council president Marlo Tabac said the free lugaw program is open to everybody especially the less fortunate residents of Mindanao.
Tabac, who is also the barangay chairman of Gusa, said the PDP-Laban is planning to expand the services of Libreng Kusina sa Minddanao to other cities and provinces in the island to help the poor especially schoolchildren in the countryside.
Pimentel thanked barangay Macabalan chairman Norbel Saa for his assistance in preparing the venue of the free lugaw public service at the Punta covered court by the Libreng Kusina sa Mindanao. PR
