CAGAYAN de Oro City--A man, in the fit of jealousy, went on a stabbing rampage Wednesday night, killing a neighbor and 16-year-old girl, and hurting three others including his live-in partner in Lapasan, this city, the police said here.
Police investigators identified the fatality as Renel Bautista, 39, of Lapasan who suffered a fatal stab wound in the chest and Trisky Bautista, 16, the niece of the Renel, all of Lapasan.
Injured were Renel’s younger brother Carlo, 37, elder sister Mitchi Bautista , 40, and Mitchi’s two children Janene, 19, and Lance, 3.
Trisky , who was seriously injured Wednesday night died of the stab wound Thursday noon, SPO3 Ronnie Donasco, the investigator of the case told the Mindanao Daily News.
Donasco identified the suspect as Ernesto Tagucon, 44, a laborer and the live-in partner of Mitchi . Tacugon tried to escape after the incident, but pursuing lawmen cornered him in a grassy portion in Dacudao Village, Lapasan.
Initial investigation disclosed that Tagucon, who was a bit tipsy, arrived home about 8 p.m. Wednesday after a day’s work.
A witness, who was living on the other side of the room where the couple lived, told the police that the couple had a quarrel when the suspect reportedly read a text message “I love you” in Mitchi’s mobile phone.
Mitchi’s mother told the police that her sons Renel and Carlo went to the house of Mitchi to investigate after hearing that Mitchi was shouting for help and the children were crying.
When Renel opened the door, the suspect reportedly stabbed him. Carlo, who was following his Renel was also stabbed hitting him on the hand.
Donasco said that the lawmen recovered an 18 inch machete, believed used by the suspect in the stabbing and killing of the victim.
According to Donasco, the suspect was imprisoned on charges with homicide when he killed a person in Consolacion in Cagayan De Oro City sometime in 2005. Tagucon was released in 2010, the police record said.
During an interview with the lawmen, Tagucon admitted to have committed the crime in the fit of jealousy. “Mi ngitngit ang akong panan-aw ug wala na ko makabalo nga nabuhat nako ang salaod” (My vision dimmed and no longer know what I have done), Tacugon said
Tagucon expressed remorse and asked forgiveness to the family of his live-in partner. “Whatever punishment, I am ready to take in order recompense my crime,” Tagucon said.
Donasco said that the police would filed double murder and frustrated murder charges against the suspect on Firday.
He said that the suspect is temporarily detained at the Agoro Police Station here.
