The Basilan government center will be constructed in a 20-heactare land the government has purchased in Barangay Sta. Clara, this city.
Hataman said the construction of the first phase of the government center will cost PHP20 million. It will be undertaken by a private construction firm.
The government center will house the Office of the Regional Governor (ORG) for the Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi (BaSulTa) areas of ARMM.
The ORG in Cotabato City will have administrative jurisdiction over the other two ARMM provinces, namely, Lanao del Sur and Maguindanao.
Hataman said the construction of the ORG in this province is aimed to bring closer the regional government to its constituents in the BaSulTa areas.
Also to be located at the government center are the different department-agencies of ARMM as well as the provincial capitol of this province and its different offices.
He said the government center will also housed the headquarters of the Army’s 104th Infantry Brigade.
Hataman was joined by his brother, Gov. Hadjiman Hataman-Saliman, Rep. Jum Akbar, Vice Mayor Roderick Furigay and other government, military and police officials in the groundbreaking ceremony. (PNA)
