Rosa Apag, 55, her husband Gilberto and 46-year old sister Maria Teresa Zaragoza, were declared dead-upon-arrival at Misamis Oriental Provincial Hospital (MOPH)-Initao, after the vehicle they were riding on, a pick-up, smashed on a road signage and fell into an excavated portion of the road.
The driver, Edgar Dale Zaragoza, 17, son of Maria Teresa and Hermelinda Velte suffered injuries and were brought to a hospital in Iligan City after receiving first aid at MOPH-Initao.
Police Officer 3 (PO3) Francis Dadole, investigator on case of Initao Municipal Police Station, said their initial investigation revealed that the driver of the victims' vehicle tried to overtake while traversing the national highway, going home to Iligan City from Cagayan de Oro City.
"We were able to talk to the driver. He said, he tried to overtake but another vehicle is coming to he returned to his proper lane but another car is coming. Perhaps he got out of control," Dadole said.
Apag is an employee of the local government unit of Iligan assigned at the City Veterinarian's Office as Administrative Officer Designate.
During the Marawi siege, Apag actively participated in the efforts of the City Veterinarian's Office of Iligan and Animal Kingdom Group to feed stray dogs in Marawi that were left by owners who fled their homes during the siege.
