MINDANAO Fashion Expo is a convergence of Mindanao’s finest designers and it was held last February 11, 2017 at Gloria de Dapitan Centerstage which also houses Fantasyland, considered to be the only theme park in Visayas and Mindanao.
The prince of haute couture Gil Macaibay III led Cagayan de Oro-based designers as well as those from nearby places for the Mindanao Fashion Expo. Included in Macaibay’s entourage were Mark Christopher Yaranon, Jermaine Nabong, John Mark Magallanes, Victor Boy Tusing, Benjie S. Manuel, Juniel Doring, Mavy Ladlad, Boogie Musni-Rivera and Aloha Lelani Begin. The director of the show was Jotyl Empeynado, hairchitect was Vanni Luague and HMUA was ably provided by the Iligan Makeup Artists Association (Narmz Pabillaran and Joshua Sombrio).
The main purpose of Mindanao Fashion Expo was to bring high fashion high couture fashion show for the locals and visitors of Dapitan City to behold thereby elevating their sense of fashion taking into account that Dapitan City is vying to be one of the top destinations in the Philippines. The project was initiated by the city government of Dapitan through its City Tourism Office in partnership with S&S Productions.
Dapitanons are so amazed with how the City Tourism Office is handling its events and promotions programs as it embarked on activities which may not be called unique but definitely not the usual type of entertainment which are common in almost all cities. After the historic FMC2 Rage Night, it followed up with another big event which was the First Shrine City Fashion Runway where glamour, beauty and expression took centerstage when Mindanao’s finest designers met in Dapitan dubbed as the Shrine City of the Philippines. With its very aggressive tourism marketing from both the local government unit (LGU) and the private stakeholders, it is now very famous having been the only theme park in Visayas and Mindanao as mentioned earlier. Indeed Dapitan is a level higher than the usual standards.
