CARD-MRI Development Institute, Inc., now a tertiary education institute of CARD Mutually Reinforcing Institutions (CARD MRI), recently conducted a three-day Lakbay-Aral for 25 indigenous people from Mindanao. All are members of Center for Agriculture and Rural Development (CARD), Inc.
The participants in the said Lakbay Aral enjoyed their exposure to different historical places in Laguna, including the city attractions in San Pablo City through the Hijos de San Pablo Tour Program and Bahay ni Rizal in Calamba City. They also visited CARD unit offices as well as successful CARD members. These avenues provided them a chance to mingle with other clients of CARD, giving them a more concrete idea of the institutions’ undertakings.
“We are happy to share with them the different cultures and places. It was also fulfilling to learn their culture deeper. We hope to do more of this and achieve our goals of reaching out to more IPs,” Christian Sandoval, Deputy Director for Training in Mindanao stated.
Lakbay-Aral or Learning Journey is one of the services being offered to CARD members who perform well in their center. Initially, those who were invited are center chiefs as part of their incentive for helping the institution in handling and organizing the center composed of about 30 members.
With positive feedbacks and results when it was first conducted in 2004, it is now offered to center secretaries, center treasurers, and members and most especially to indigenous members. Specific Lakbay Arals are also conducted to join the spouses of the members.
Every year, CMDI handles Lakbay Aral for CARD members belonging to Indigenous communities composed of an average of 25 participants per tour. CARD plans to increase it in the coming years.
