The Muslim people coming from all parts of Davao Region unite once again during the 11th annual celebration of the Pakaradyan festival last October 24 to 26, held at the New City Hall Atrium of Tagum City, with the theme: “Tagumpay ang Tagumenyo sa patuloy na pagkakaisa ng mge Muslim sa kapayapaan at kaunlaran.”
According to Xylee Labastida Palomata, the head of the City Tribal and Muslim Affairs Officeof Tagum, the festival is a gathering of all dominant Islamic tribal groups of Davao del Norte namely the Maranao, Iranon, Kagan, and Maguidanaoan who have actively participated since the festival have commenced.
On the second day of the event, during the Kulintangan sa Pakaradyan, Hadji Jamalon Ranain was appointed as the new Rajamuda of the Royal Sultanate of Davao del Norte, the very first Panaboan to receive the title. The new provincial Rajamuda promised to serve the Muslim community of Davao del Norte with constant vigor and dedication to ensure their welfare.
The Pakaradyan Festival is awarded as the 2017 Best Tourism Event by the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP) and the Department of Tourism (DOT). This colourful festivity will continue to become an avenue to showcase the varied talents, culture, tradition, and history of the Islamic humanity. Further, it empowers them by giving the Muslim community a voice in the government.
