To help them carry out their role as frontline technical assistance providers to farmers in their respective areas, the Plant Health Regulatory Services Section (PHRS) of the Regulatory Division of the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10) spearheaded a two-day Briefing and Orientation on Pests and Diseases in Coffee and Cacao, here in the city of Cagayan de Oro.
Attended by nearly 20 high value crop surveillance officers, the activity targeted to enhance the knowledge and skills of the body on the identification and management of pests and diseases in coffee and cacao, including the use of biocontrol agents.
Likewise, it was staged in order for agricultural extensionists to appropriately guide coffee and cacao farmers in making informed choices, as to the proper control measures to be undertaken, before serious damages may arise in their grown crops.
Through the activity, Supervising Agriculturist and PHRS Section Luisito S. Ofngol further expressed his optimism that with the expertise of the attendees, they can ably help coffee and cacao farmers protect themselves from crop losses and also contribute to food sufficiency in the region, as well. # (JLOlson)
