Dalwangan, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon — To further mechanize and upgrade the region’s agriculture sector, the Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RF0 10) turned over more than P1.3 billion worth of projects and interventions to local government units and farmers, as part of the 22nd Farmers’ Field Days and Techno-Forum, held at the Northern Mindanao Agricultural Crops and Livestock Research Complex (NMACLRC), on October 27-29, 2015.
As a highlight of the said event, DA Secretary Proceso J. Alcala, together with Undersecretary Emerson U. Palad, witnessed and facilitated the turnover of machineries, equipment, projects, livestock and seeds to beneficiaries under the Agri-Pinoy rice, corn, livestock and high value crops programs of DA, including that of the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) and other special projects of the department.
The turnover was in itself a spectacle as the Secretary remarked, “Sa katunayan po, medyo malaki po ang dala-dala naming ipamamahagi ngayon. Ngayon po ang ating proyektong ipamimigay ay hindi lang po maliit na halaga. Ito po ay nagkakahalaga ng mahigit 1.3 billion pesos para sa inyong rehiyon (In fact, what we are giving today is quite huge. Today, we will not be only giving a small worth of projects, but an amount of more than P1.3 billlion for your region)”.
Machineries and equipment turned-over were: 6 mini 4WD tractors, 2 combine harvesters and 16 power tillers (turtle type) for rice beneficiaries; 7 hand tractors for HVCDP beneficiaries; and 9 farm tractors, 4 cassava diggers, 5 cassava graters and 2 grain dryers for corn beneficiaries. Three multi-purpose drying pavements were also awarded to the Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA) project. In total, the mentioned facilities amount to P34.9 million.
FMR projects were also turned-over to the Province of Camiguin with an amount of P40M; to PRDP with an amount of P1.2B; and to the Bottom-up Budgeting (BUB) project with an amount of P12.9M. Indemnity checks worth P1.7M were also given to the Philippine Crops Insurance Corporation (PCIC).
Aside from these, 5 head carabaos, 5 head cattle and 3 packets of goat, as well as 100 bags of rice seeds and 100 bags of OPV corn seeds, amounting to P6.76 thousand, were also awarded to farmers.
In an open forum during the event, farmer-leaders present also addressed their agricultural concerns such as: additional machinery assistance, construction of farm-to-market roads (FMRs) to conduction of trainings, among others, for their respective groups, municipalities and provinces, to the Secretary, USec. Palad, DA-RFO 10 Regional Director Lealyn A. Ramos and Assistant Regional Director Constancio Maghanoy, Jr.
Consequently, a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of 2 FMRs for the municipalities of Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon and Calamba, Misamis Occidental, totaling to P1.3M, was conducted.
During the three-day farmers’ field days, more than 2,300 participants composed of farmers, students, government leaders and employees, joined and witnessed the activities showcasing 80 agri-livestock technologies with emphasis on organic farming.
This year’s Farmers’ Field Days was centered on the theme: More than Two Decades of Technology Development, Transfer and Adoption: Bridging a Progessive Northern Mindanao towards ASEAN Competitiveness, aiming to enrich Northern Mindanao farmers’ knowledge and abilities on agricultural technologies to increase their production and income and equip them to compete in the ASEAN market. # (MCLPaylaga, DA-RAFIS 10)
