“Corn is one of the champion crops in the country for the ASEAN integration,” Undersecretary Atty. Emerson U. Palad stressed during the recently conducted National Quality Corn Achievers Award (NQCAA) in conjunction with the 11th National Corn Congress at Fontana Leisure Park, Clark field, Pampanga.
For its 3rd year, the NQCAA aims to; recognize the achievements of the top performing LGUs with outstanding contribution to the corn industry; encourage DA-LGU partnership in the production of quality corn; and sustain awareness of the LGUs to the activities of the Agri-Pinoy Corn program.
Given recognition in this year’s awarding are 5 outstanding provinces; 3 outstanding provincial agriculturists; 4 provincial corn coordinators; 25 outstanding municipalities/cities; 23 outstanding municipal/city agriculturists; 17 outstanding municipal/city corn coordinators; 100 outstanding agricultural extension workers; and the national quality corn achievers hall of fame awardees.
In Northern Mindanao, the towns of Claveria, Misamis Oriental and Don Carlos, Bukidnon were declared as outstanding municipalities wherein Claveria was granted with P 2 M project grant being hailed as hall of Famer while Don Carlos was granted with P 1 M worth of project.
Ms. Merlyn Los Banos of Don Carlos and Mr. Pat Dumaloan, a hall of famer from Clavreia surfaced as winners for the municipal agriculturist and municipal corn coordinator category, where they received cash award amounting to P 30 thousand and P 40 thousand, respectively. Three AEWs from Claveria also hailed as Hall of Famer in the agriculture extension workers category where they received cash award worth P 30 thousand each. They are Ms. Ellaine C. Edio and Jennifer N. Baguinang of Claveria and Melania D. Go of Don Carlos.
Other awardees are Aida M. Obenza, Deofel J. Omagap, Valentino R. Obenza, Florencia C. Mutia and Aida B. Cambel of Cabanglasan, Bukidnon; Joan Marie A. Diola, Floredel F. Tinoy and Richard B. Leono of Malaybalay City, Bukidnon; and Purita L. Magaway of Don Carlos for the AEW category. Each shall take home a cash prize amounting to P 20,000.00.
With this recognition, the government is optimistic that LGUs will be more aggressive in doing exceptional performance in the promotion and development for the corn sector and likewise will bring economic growth for the corn industry as a whole. (# MGBS)
