CLARIN, Misamis Occidental, -- Clarin town in Misamis Occidental celebrated 5th Suman Festival with a total of 13 contingents from 29 barangaysl joined the festival on February 21 who competed for street dancing, dance ritual and festival queen.
The event made the roads too heavy for the whole day affair as the contigents performed on the street to bagged the title Best in Street Dancing and trooped to the ground of Holy Child High School for the showdown to bring home the Grand Championship Title.
The competing contingents must exhibit and demonstrate creative dance steps of how "Suman" the One Town One Product Champion influence the way-of-life among the Clarinian folks.
This year’s Champion was the contingent from barangay Mailen, Dolorez with their spectacular and amazing performances.
According to Mayor David Navarro, the success of the 5th Suman Festival was the product of unity and cooperation among the leaders, and the barangay people with its Barangay Officials who were so supportive and never get tired of training the youth in doing their nightly practices in order to harness their performances.
“I’m so happy seeing those dancers from the barangays that by heart they made their performances well,” Navarro said.
Clarin Tourism Officer Novie Grace Reponte said that without the full cooperation of the leaders and the barangay people, the festival won’t turn out of a success of which she’s so thankful to all those who participated in the event which everyone was looking forward every year.
Jane Marie Tabucan, provincial director of Department of Trade and Industry Misamis Occidental said the sustainability of the Suman Festival was the product of the strong support, unity and cooperation especially the leaders, the different lined agencies and the barangay people who were so instrumental why the 5th Suman Festival was so successful.
She added the success of Clarin is a clear manifestations that if leaders are so strong, energetic and dynamic in fulfilling their duties then everything will follow to be successful in all their endeavors.
Suman has been identified as the local government unit’s (LGU) One-Town, One-Product (OTOP), and part of its development and promotion efforts was the creation of the Clarin Suman Task Force (CLASTAF) that mandated the establishment of the House of Suman and Pasalubong Center (HSPC).
The conduct of the Annual Suman Festival enables to increase in average sales per enterprise and even enhance the organization capability that fulfills the claim by the suman makers that indeed ‘suman sa Clarin’ is our culture and our future. (Shaine Mae Nagtalon/PIA MisOcc)
