Out on the road where conditions can be unpredictable and anything can happen, those who come prepared always have a clear advantage. With the harsh and oftentimes unforgiving situations faced by today’s motorists, our roads demand a new breed of drivers and vehicles that are ‘Born Ready’.
Chevrolet Philippines presented two of their top-selling vehicle models that are built to withstand rough environments and inclement weather conditions – the Chevrolet Colorado Tracker and the Chevrolet Trailblazer.
“With over a century of expertise in the automotive industry, Chevrolet’s diverse product line of top-notch automobiles are built to overcome obstacles, both on and off road,” says Atty. Alberto B. Arcilla, President and Managing Director of Chevrolet Philippines. “The Colorado Tracker and Trailblazer continue to win over new customers because of their commendable safety features, versatility and capability. We are proud to offer these models with segment-leading capabilities to the Filipino market.”
The Chevrolet Colorado pick-up truck ups the ante even further with the introduction of the Tracker and Tracker Pro editions. These power-packed rides combine off-road truck capability, crossover refinement, and superior engine performance.
The award-winning Chevrolet Trailblazer, on the other hand, sets itself apart from other mid-sized SUVs with its impressive performance, active safety features and go-anywhere capability. Its LTX and LTZ variants push the envelope even further by bundling power and performance together with power, safety and comfort, all as standard.
The Colorado Tracker and Trailblazer truly epitomize Chevrolet’s ‘BORN READY’ battle cry. To test this, Chevrolet Philippines – The Covenant Car Company Inc, the exclusive importer and distributor of Chevrolet vehicles and parts in the Philippines, recently held a ‘BORN READY’ Ride and Drive Event at the Sun Valley Golf and Residential Estates in Antipolo City to put the Colorado Tracker and the Trailblazer through its paces in a rough and rugged course at the slopes of Antipolo, Rizal.
READY for Fun
Both equipped with the 2nd generation Duramax turbo diesel engine, the Colorado and the Trailblazer are powered by a robust 2.8-liter engine producing up to 200 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. The signature diesel engine not only underscores an industry leap in acceleration, straight-line performance, and off-road capabilities, it also balances its output with improved fuel efficiency. Overall, the legendary Duramax diesel engine delivers no-compromise turbocharged power that is definitely fun to drive.
The Trailblazer picks it up a notch by adding a premium cabin feel to the overall driving experience. Featuring a protective sound insulation system, the Trailblazer lowers the Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) levels resulting in a more relaxing in-car environment.
Connectivity for work and play is made more fun. The Trailblazer LTZ and Colorado Tracker comes with Chevrolet’s MyLink infotainment system that features touch screen technology and media connectivity through Bluetooth, AUX, USB, and Siri Eyes Free. The Trailblazer 4×2 LTX automatic variant adds even more with its built in Android Infotainment System offering online access with a free* one-year 4G internet connection powered by Globe Tattoo, to make the best use of built-in apps like Waze and Spotify.
READY for Rough Roads
Rough trails, muddy puddles and fallen debris are challenges that the 4×4 capabilities of the Colorado and the Trailblazer can easily take on.
Out on the trails, vastly uneven surfaces result in twisted axles which cause loss of traction. While other vehicles may find it troublesome negotiating such courses, the Colorado and the Trailblazer’s Traction Control System helps it navigate with ease on only three and even two wheels. The advanced system detects traction variances through road and driving conditions, automatically triggering brake force, reducing engine torque, or a combination of both to prevent loss of traction.
Despite the less than ideal conditions outside the vehicle, both driver and passenger are assured of a comfortable ride with the independent, double wishbone front suspension paired with a versatile 5-link coil spring rear suspension system on the Trailblazer, and rugged and reliable leaf springs on the Colorado.
Steep inclines are a cinch with the Hill Assist and Descent Controls, while shifting “on-the-fly” from 4×2 to 4×4 mode is made possible with Electronic Drive Mode Select. In addition, the Colorado’s 8-crossmember ladder chassis configuration enables the vehicle to withstand high torsional stress that can be found in an extreme off-road adventure.
READY for Floods
With torrential rains threatening to turn city streets into oversized pools in a blink, the Colorado and Trailblazer’s ability to traverse flood water is vital.
With a high beltline and a strategically placed powertrain, both units offer unmatched water wading capability. These design feature keep both the cabin and engine bay secure from swells of flood water and even shallow rapids measuring up to **800mm for the Trailblazer.
The Colorado Tracker editions take it a notch higher with an added 2-inch lift that affords increased ground clearance offering a best-in-class **880mm limit while built-in snorkel intake reduces risk of water intrusion into the engine.
READY for Rescue
Safety is of utmost importance especially in trying times out on the road.
While both the Colorado and Trailblazer are more than capable of taking themselves out of a rut, they are also equipped to offer a helping hand with 1-ton hauling capacity, 3.5-ton towing capacity, and a 6,000-lb tow hitch with electrical receiver making them two of the most suitable road companions during emergency situations.
The Colorado Tracker Pro is especially impressive with its standard 12,000-lb integrated power winch with recovery equipment package, the only pick-up in its class to offer this. The feature can mean the difference between getting stuck or conquering even the toughest of situations in deep mud, sand or gravel, or for climbing steep, slippery slopes.
Further enhancing the safety aspects of the Colorado and the Trailblazer, Chevrolet has equipped both with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) that offers warnings if one or more tires are significantly under-inflated.
