DA USEC Bernadette Puyat encouraged the group of women to submit their proposals to catch-up for the 2015 budget; lanzones wine and vinegar processed by Ethel Bacolcol; and Marcelino Navarro, President of Camiguin Best Cocosugar of the municipality of Sagay.
With the government’s mandate to implement RA 10068 or the Organic Agriculture Act of 2010, the Department of Agriculture, Regional Field Office – 10 in coordination with the provincial government of Camiguin worked hand-in hand in declaring Camiguin as an “Organic Province”.
Part of its activities to support its vision to declare Camiguin as an organic agriculture province is to develop and implement the best agricultural practices on organic agriculture towards a competitive and sustainable agriculture. These include the techno-demo farms on organic agriculture, vermiculture, coco sugar processing, among others.
The Department of Agriculture through the Office of the Special Concerns also provided interventions on Gender and Development (GAD) projects. Part of it is the forum on Magna Carta that aims to advocate the role of women in nation building and ensure the substantive equality of women and men.
DA Special Concerns Undersecretary and National Organic Agriculture Board Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, in her message emphasized on the Magna Carta of Women, a law that gives privileges to a group of women, its importance, its right and empowerment, and endeavors to eliminate discrimination. USEC Puyat stressed that with the government’s budget of P2.6B for 2015, more GAD project will be implemented. She further encouraged the group of women to submit their proposals to avail of the said program.
The undersecretary is also grateful to the local executives for their full support to the agriculture sector.# sva
