DOST XI Achieves Highest PGS Award in Compliance Stage

The Department of Science and Technology Region XI (DOST XI) achieved its second Gold Trailblazer award- the highest recognition in the Compliance Stage of the 4-stage pathway of the Performance Government System (PGS) conferred by the Institute for Solidarity in Asia (ISA) last December 9, 2022.

PGS is a management system developed for public institutions by the ISA to advocate good governance by encouraging organizations to institutionalize all its systems and processes for more effective and efficient delivery of its service.

In 2021, DOST XI was also hailed as a Gold Trailblazer Awardee in the Initiation Stage of the same framework, making them the first awardee from the DOST system.

Prior to the awarding, an online revalida was conducted where DOST XI Regional Director Dr. Anthony Sales presented the Agency’s progress and milestones in the PGS pathway.

Among the identified early wins of DOST XI are the Grassroots Innovation for Inclusive Development Program, the Halal Verification Laboratory, the Development of Science, Engineering, Technology, and Innovation (SETI) for Sustainable Development Goals Scorecard, and the Presidential Proclamation for the Davao Regional Government Center.

The DOST XI also envisions to become an international benchmark for governance in the provision of smart SETI products and services up to the grassroots level for inclusive and sustainable development in Mindanao by 2030.

In his award acceptance speech, Dr. Sales expressed gratitude to the DOST XI team and emphasized that the award is a testament of the Agency’s commitment to bring the best public service to the people.

“It’s more than just work, and it’s more than just these awards. It’s really helping people, bringing Science closer to the people. So I offer this award to my staff because what I do as the Director is just the tip of the iceberg. What is important is the blood, sweat, and tears of our staff that are often unseen. So I like to dedicate this to my staff,” he added.
