SM City Cagayan de Oro, SM CDO Downtown Premier together with SM Foundation turned over 700 Bears of Joy to the Marawi children in Lanao del Norte, Iligan and Marawi evacuation centers.
The SM Bears of Joy is a project of SM Cares, which is the corporate social responsibility arm of SM Supermalls.
The project encouraged SM shoppers to purchase a pair of plush bears, one of which they keep and the other to give for donation to the less privileged children in the community.
“We were all humbled with how appreciative the beneficiaries were,” SM Foundation Assistant Vice President for Outreach and Livelihood Cristie Angeles said. “The bears brought a smile to the children’s faces” she added.
Ms Angeles also emphasized that the bears will help the children in evacuation centers relieve stress from a traumatic experience.
Last year, SM malls nationwide were able to give more than 16,000 Bears of Joy to 47 communities throughout the country.
This year, the company wishes to share more through the generous participation of SM shoppers.
