ILIGAN CITY -- Police arrested on Thursday, January 3, a 63-year old man for statutory rape, in a joint operation of the Iligan City Police Office and the Dumaguete City Police Office in Purok 5, Barangay Batiguel, Dumaguete City.
The suspect was identified as Frank Mag-usara, married, a resident of Dalamas, Barangay Pugaan, Iligan City.
Senior Inspector Eric Logronio, deputy station commander of Iligan City Police Station 1, Mag-usara was arrested by virtue of warrant of arrest issued by Judge Anisah Amanodin-Umpa of the Regional Trial Court Branch 2 in Iligan City in October 31, 2018.
He added that the suspect committed the crime against a six-year old daughter of his son’s wife from a previous relationship in August last year.
“The warrant of arrest was issued in October. On December last year, we were supposed to serve it at his residents in Pugaan but the neighbors said the suspect left two weeks prior,” Logronio said.
Mistaken to be his wife
In an interview at the detention cell of ICPS 1, Mag-usara admitted he molested the child because “he was thinking the person lying beside him was his wife.”
“I was drunk that’s why I did it. I thought I was sleeping with my wife. I just discovered in the morning that the child was sleeping with me, it was dark. It was only once,” Mag-usa said.
He said he did not escape. He was only looking for work in Dumaguete where he was arrested in a joint operation of the City Intelligence Branch and ICPS 1 of the Iligan City Police Office, the Criminal Intelligence Division Group (CIDG) and the Dumaguete City Police Office.
The suspect is facing six counts of statutory rape.
