DAVAO CITY -- The three police officers who were recorded on video appearing to be drinking beer inside a mall here will be investigated, the Police Regional Office 11 (Davao region) assured Wednesday.
The video of the three officers were posted on the Facebook account of the Brigada News radio station on Tuesday, taken by its manager, Jun Digamon.
More videos were posted later that day, purportedly showing the police officers talking in loud voices and at one point, arguing with the staff of a Shakey’s pizza parlor inside the Abreeza Mall. Shakey’s serves beer during its “happy hours” in the late afternoon until evening.
The three police officers were later identified as Supt. Danny Pallado, Insp. Freddie Viernes, and SPO3 Myla Duro, who all belong to the Regional Internal Affairs Service (RIAS) 11), the unit that hears and investigates police officers facing administrative cases.
The first post garnered 1,400 shares and 122,000 views as of 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Chief Insp. Jason Baria, PRO-11 spokesperson, said that while he has not seen any of the videos, complaints against police officers will be investigated.
During Wednesday’s Armed Forces of the Philippines – Philippine National Police (PNP) press corps briefing, Baria reminded police personnel that drinking liquor in public is tantamount to conduct unbecoming.
It was learned that Pallado is the chief of the Internal Investigation Division, while Viernes is the deputy chief of the IID.
Last week, Chief Supt. Marcelo Morales, PRO-11 director, issued a directive banning police from drinking in public and in their police uniform.
Morales also barred police from entering bars and similar entertainment areas. The ban is part of the internal cleansing program of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and PNP.
Morales said police commanders will also be held liable for the conduct of their personnel. (PNA)
