DAVAO CITY- The first Mindanao Halal Festival opened yesterday (July 15) at the activity center of Abreeza Mall in Davao City.
The two-day event spearheaded by Escider, a Halal business investment company will showcase different halal products which include food, apparels, cosmetics, personal hygiene products, fashion accessories, services and businesses which are halal certified.
According to Karla Singson event coordinator of the first MHF, one of the highlights of the event is the Halal Food Festival where the public will have the chance to taste and savor Halal food based on regional cuisines here in Mindanao. The first night will be held in Abreeza while the second night (July 16) will be held in Marco Polo Davao.
Aside from the food festival other activities include the Qur’an memorization competition and the launch of the amended Halal Ordinance in Davao City.
Davao City is the first local government to enact a halal ordinance enacted in 2010.
Councilors Maria Belen Acosta of the first district of Davao City and Indigenous Peoples Representative to Davao City’s Sannguniang Panglungsod Bai Halila Sudagar graced the event’s opening.
Syed Kamal Reza vice-president of Escidor said he hopes the MHF will gather stakeholders and industry players in the Halal industry. He hopes the city and the region will corner a foothold in the global halal industry which is estimated to be worth $500- billion. (PIA/RG Alama)
